The New Kids On The Block- D.O.C

D.O.C, Melbourne’s iconic Italian pizza eateries, opens its first Sydney restaurant in the heart of the inner-city food bowl, Surry Hills.

D.O.C is located on the ground floor of Surry Hill’s newest commercial building, 78 Campbell St.

“After 3 years of looking for a site, we are delighted to open D.O.C Surry Hills. Our restaurants in Melbourne have a wonderful local following and are well known for authentic Italian pizzas and an atmosphere of bringing people together. We are excited to share our unique take on Italian classics with Sydney-siders.” says Michael Costanzo, co-founder of D.O.C Group.

“To ensure D.O.C translates to Sydney, we have relocated our long-standing Lygon Street Carlton restaurant manager Andrea Colosimo along with our Melbourne based pizzaiolo to run Sydney.”

D.O.C is real Italian eating that focuses on age-old simplicity, pizza like Italians eat; crispy and springy pizza bases, simple combinations that don’t overload the crust. Classics that have fed Melbourne make their way here like the Pizza San Daniele (San Azano tomato, DOP buffalo mozzarella and San Daniele Prosciutto) and the Pizza ai Porchini (wild mushrooms, truffle oil, mozzarella & pecorino). There will also be a revolving list of specials with 2 new toppings coming along every week in rotation. Pizza will also be available for pickup only takeaway.

In addition to signature pizzas, the menu features strong antipasto offering with D.O.C’s fresh buffalo mozzarella, flown in directly from Italy for the D.O.C Group alongside some local cheeses. The impressive antipasti offering sits alongside their signature lasagne as a pasta option in both classic veal/pork style and a vegetarian offering with gluten free pasta.

The wine features local and Italian wines, including Rinaldo Di Stasio wine, plus the signature D.O.C’s prosecco made by three-generation-old winery Cester Camillo in Treviso, Italy. A tight selection of natural wines by the glass and bottle will also be welcomed on to the opening drinks list.

Studio Ström Design

Studio Ström under the direction of Founder, Steffi Ström is a bi-continental design studio based between Melbourne and Berlin, working with clients and projects globally. With a strong focus on interior architecture, specially hospitality design and furniture.

In working with DOC group for a number of years now, they know the brand inside out. DOC Surry hills is the expression of DOC and its growth as one of the best Italian eateries. The design reflects the quality of food using natural stones with a more raw and honest approach using steel and brass. The aesthetic is relaxed and atmospheric which is reflected in the warm tones of timber. With attention to details in all the joinery and the choice if materials this venue feels like the evolution of DOC. The commissioned artwork by Kate Florence has become a tradition in all DOC restaurants, with its abstract art it suits the forward thinking restaurant group.

AT HOME WITH SHERIDAN- Steve Cordony And Michael Booth

There’s really no one measure of success in a relationship. However, a 10-year anniversary is certainly something to celebrate. March 2020 marked a decade of love for top Sydney interior stylist, Steve Cordony and his partner, Michael Booth. While the Sydney power couple aren’t ones to fall into the clichés of Valentine’s Day, they made an exception this year and basked in the success of their long-standing relationship.

We sat down with Steve and Michael in their Tamarama home; a humble city apartment, unsurprisingly styled to the nines by Steve himself with Sheridan’s AW20 Collection. We felt inspired by the space, but the couple swears the apartment is simply a side hustle for mid-week workdays, second only to their dream home- a seven-bedroom country style property in Orange that the two are currently renovating.

Steve and Michael live an adventure-filled life, and while one would assume their dreams for the future are career driven, their main goal is one that signifies love in its truest form- to live a simpler life together, away from the hustle and bustle. The drought created a minor setback for the two, but when the time is right, they’ll pack their bags and escape to 'the farm' for good.
